The current NCEES FE Civil specification assigns 10 to 15 questions to geotechnical engineering within a 110-question, six-hour appointment. Build speed in soil classification, phase relations, effective stress, testing, settlement, strength, foundations, retaining structures, and slopes.

The current April 2024 specification covers 80 questions across ten geotechnical knowledge areas. NCEES has also published a revised specification effective April 2027, so match your study plan to your scheduled exam date.
